We probably all have our favorite Christmas carols; one that particularly opens our minds and hearts to the Christmas mystery. For me it is O Holy Night. I particularly like the lines “the soul felt its worth,” and “a thrill of hope the weary world rejoices.” The poetry of the lyrics lead me to prayer (to fall on my knees) and a sense of awe, which is probably the most appropriate response to the gift of Jesus. The carol moves me to contemplate the mystery of God’s love for this broken and weary world, so in need of a Savior.

May the Lord touch any weariness you experience, make you feel your worth, and give you even a little thrill of hope to sustain you!

O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Savior's birth Long lay the world in sin and error pining 'Til He appears and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees; O hear the Angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born O night, O Holy night, O night divine!

What Christmas carol speaks to your heart?
