A Franciscan Parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit

Browsing FROM THE DESK OF FR. JEFF

June 22-23, 2019

On this Feast of the Body and Blood of the Lord, we also have the great joy of celebrating the 60th anniversary of our Assistant Pastor, Fr. Jeremy Harrington, at whose hands we receive the Eucharist. The date of his ordination was June 13, 1959. Fr. Jeremy has had a long and fruitful ministry of sharing the Good News:

Fr. Jeremy began his 60 years of priesthood by serving 3 years as a teacher at Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati.

In 1964 Fr. Jeremy then began a long career (17 years) of serving at St. Anthony Messenger, (our Franciscan magazine) first as Associate Editor, then Editor, then Publisher. During many of those years, he also served as a member of the Provincial Council (9 years).  He was elected as Provincial Minister in 1981 and served in that role for 9 years.

After a well-deserved sabbatical, and a few months serving as Director of Communications for the General Chapter of the Order held in 1991, be returned to St. Anthony Messenger Press as Chief Executive Officer and Publisher for 14 years.

During those years he also served the Order as the General Visitor to the Custody of the Holy Cross in Lemont, IL, St. Barbara Province in California, Christ the King Province in Canada, and the Immaculate Conception Province in England.

He then served 6 years as Guardian and Director of the Commissary of the Holy Land in Washington, DC, supporting the ministry of the Franciscans who work in the Holy Land.

Fr. Jeremy, we are grateful to God for finally bringing you to us, here at Transfiguration Parish. Thank you for your kindness and generosity to us, and to so many over the years. Thank you for your Franciscan spirit of humility, for reminding us of God’s love and mercy, and for sharing the Body and Blood of the Lord with us!

Fr. Jeremy

May God bless you with many more years!

Fr. Jeff
