Safe Environment

Often when we hear about the efforts of the Church in regard for the Protection of Children and Young People.

From a faith environment perspective, the importance is not in our compliance, but in our calling.  Our calling furthers the Gospel message of Christ by protecting God's children and vulnerable adults.

To help accomplish our call, the following policy has been set in place. Read please the letter of our Archbishop Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger

Requirements apply to any volunteer at a parish or school-coordinated ministry or event, whether that happens on or off school property. Whether or not a volunteer or employee interacts directly with children or vulnerable adults, all volunteers play a role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our parish and school communities. 

  1. Protecting God's Children Certification

VIRTUS will automatically send a notice of recertification fifteen days prior to the three-year anniversary of your most recent certification or recertification.

2. Get ready to be screened

  • Fingerprinting is required for clergy, archdiocesan, parish, and school employees; and any volunteers who work directly with children and/or vulnerable adults. Discover here if you need to be fingerprinted here and for more information about the process here.
  • Volunteers who do not work directly with children and/or vulnerable adults are required to undergo an iChat (Michigan State Police) background check every 2 years.
