Browsing FROM THE DESK OF FR. JEFF

April 13-14, 2019

Have your ever sat at the bedside of a loved one who is dying? Have you ever accompanied someone who knows they are in the last few months or weeks of his or her life? Have you ever had conversations about their death with a loved one? Those kinds of experiences are not easy or comfortable; they are profound, sometimes life changing, and a great privilege. That is what we are invited to do this week as we begin Holy Week. We are accompanying Jesus as he ends his life. The liturgical dynamic today is “entry.” We will walk with him on the way of the cross. As we remember and celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, we enter into a sacred time, a holy week. That is why we change the way we enter church today and enter the church with a procession: to remind us quite physically that we are now entering into the Paschal Mystery of Jesus. We are joining in him in his dying and his rising! I invite you to consciously “enter” into this week and these most sacred mysteries. A blessed Holy week to all. I sincerely hope you are able to participate in the celebrations of this week: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter celebrations on Saturday and Sunday. They do take a little more of our time and effort, but they are the way we enter into the saving mysteries.

Fr. Jeff
