A Franciscan Parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit

January 25-26, 2020

Late last year, Pope Francis called for the 3rd Sundry of Ordinary time each year to be a Sunday devoted to appreciation of the Word of God, the Scriptures. The Scriptures are the way God reveals himself to us. St. Jerome, a noted biblical scholar, once said that “ignorance of the Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” Today is a special day for us to be grateful for this gift of God’s Word. Jesus himself knew (and prayed) the Scriptures; the Gospel writers, like Matthew in today’s gospel, describe Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies of Isaiah: Jesus is the light that dispels darkness.

The Light calls us to be disciples! We hear that call through the Word of God. May God give us ears to hear.

Ponder this:

We are a community built on the Word of God.
