A Franciscan Parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit

Browsing FROM THE DESK OF FR. JEFF

June 15-16, 2019

We published an announcement of the Holy Land Pilgrimage available for the parish in October of 2020 a while back, but some folks may have missed it, so I wanted to remind you once again of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Last year at the Women’s Christmas dinner, someone suggested that we as a parish should make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It was an intriguing idea, so we looked into it. The Franciscan Pilgrimage Program out of Milwaukee agreed to design and lead a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Jordan just for Transfiguration Parish. It can take place October 19-30, 2020, led by two Franciscan Friars, Fr. Anthony Chircop and Fr. Page Polk. The Pilgrimage Program has developed a flier detailing the day by day itinerary, which is available at the welcome desk. There will be visits to Mt. Carmel, Nazareth, Jericho, Masada, Bethany, the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Mount of Olives, Jerusalem, and the Holy Sepulchre, the place of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Imagine a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee! You won’t have to imagine it; you will do it! The cost, including the flight from Detroit, is $4400 per person. Land only is $3400, and a single room is $350 more.

In order to do this, we need at least 20 participants, and we have to confirm the pilgrimage 6 months in advance, so we need to know if we have 20 people by early April 2020. After we have 20, we can send in non-refundable deposits. So far we have about 5 people who have committed. We can open it up to people outside the parish, but I would hope that the pilgrimage would be substantially Transfiguration parishioners before we do that. We can have many more than 20! You can find out more about the pilgrimage by picking up a flier.

Please let me know in writing (email: scheelerj@transfigsfld.org) so that I won’t forget! We’re on our way!
