May 18-19, 2019

This is a busy time of the year: Confirmations, First Communions, Graduations, Weddings, Anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father's Day, to name a few. It is a busy time in our liturgical calendar also as well. We have the significant celebrations of the May Crowning, Ascension, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, and the Body and Blood of Jesus before we return to "Ordinary Time." So hold on to your hats; here we go!

We once again congratulate Christopher Chilaka who was confirmed May 5 at St. Regis. Today we celebrate with our First Communicants: Emily Cousino, Noah Hughes, Victoria Jones, Sade Kole-James, Christian Marshall, and Kosi Nwamba. Welcome to the table!

Don forget the Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, May 29, 7:30-9:00 AM at St. John Armenian Church on Northwestern Hwy.

If you wish to see a new movie called St. Francis, Sign of Contradiction, see the sign in the Gathering Space and order your tickets and meet us at the Redford Theater, Thursday, June 6: 7pm Music, 8pm Movie, 9pm Q & A. And speaking of St. Francis, we will bless the new statue after it has been placed. We’re not sure when that will be; it depends on when those helping us erect it are able to do so. Stay tuned!

On Pentecost, June 8/9, we would like to have our petitions read in different languages. If you know another language, please volunteer by signing up on the sheet in the Gathering Space. On Sunday June 23, between the 8:00 and 10:00 Masses, we will have a Corpus Christi Procession, from 9:15-9:45 AM (weather permitting, of course). Our plan is to process with the Blessed Sacrament out the front door to Code Road, then to 10 Mile, then turn up the driveway just beyond the school, past the Boyd building and back in to the Gathering Space. It's a short walk, but it will give us a brief time to publicly express our devotion to the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

That same morning, June 23, we will celebrate Fr. Jeremy's 60th anniversary of ordination at the 10:00 Mass, with a reception following. (The friars will be in Cincinnati May 27-28 celebrating with Fr. Jeremy and all the other friars having a jubilee this year.)

The Franciscan Alumni Association (those men who were discerning a vocation with the Franciscans but who still love the Franciscan charism) will be meeting in Southfield June 20-22. They will join us for the 4:30 mass on Saturday June 22, which will be followed by a meal and their annual "chapter."

We will honor all high school and college graduates at all the masses on the weekend of June 29/30. We hope you will come and allow us to celebrate with you, and if you still have your cap and gown, feel free to wear it.

All this should keep us out of trouble for a while, don't you think? Thanks for your ongoing goodness and generosity!

Fr. Jeff
